Is there a time that you will conduct a literature review concerning PLC's or have you already done that? What role will this review play in your plan?
ReplyDeleteI will be reviewing literature throughout the process. That is a great suggestion, I will add that to my plan!
ReplyDeleteI went to a Richard Dufour conference on PLC. His books are a good resource.
DeleteI'm thinking about your surveys. Maybe you could include questions like:
ReplyDelete-what makes PLC time effective for you?
-what makes PLC time ineffective for you?
-what can you do to improve the effectivity for planning?
-how can administrators support this? What can they do to help make the time more useful?
I like that you are using PLC's. The school that you listed, is that the campus your research will occur on or is that a campus that utilizes PLC's successfully and you want to follow their guide? Are you going to require that the PLC's meet a certain number of times each month? Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I like how you set up a mid-point survey to use in making improvements to your plan. Reflection is very important in action research. Our school works very collaboratively, but we don't call it PLC. We just meet together as grade level teams 2-3 times a week to create our lesson plans, discuss student concerns, and take care of other grade level concerns. Is this similar to what you are implementing at your school with PLCs?
ReplyDeleteI love that you are going to get to use PLCs in your school. I have been a part of them before and the experience was great! Would it be possible for you to observe PLCs that are being effectively used in another school and implement their strategies in areas in which your campus has identified needs? good luck with everything! The PLC is truly a great tool for teachers!
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not I have not ever heard of PLCs until just this past week. We always did "team planning" at our school but never have a PLC. Make sure you use all the components of a PLC rather then just the "team planning" portion. Maybe even, with permission from your principal, you could do a professional development with department heads over how to use PLCs effectively.
ReplyDeleteI like that you have implement teachers suggestions as part of the plan, that means you have flexibility and the willingness to change, and see if others ideas are feasible. Should be an interesting ARP.
ReplyDeleteI like this plan. Very well thought out, and looks like you covered all your bases. I agree with Terra, maybe observing PLC's on another campus could give you some strategies to try on your campus. Good plan, and I look forward to reading about your progress along the way.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a part of PLC's but your plan looks great! You've clearly thought out each step of the way! Great Job!
ReplyDeleteY'all have left some great comments! Our PLC schedule is a little different. We have structured PLC time on our campus twice a week built in to our day. I think observing a PLC on another campus is a great idea!
